Our People





Our teaching staff is very seasoned and many faculty members have been at the school since its earliest years, giving a sense of stability and continuity to our school.

We recruit new teachers carefully, and emphasize teaching excellence above all else in this process. Our classroom teachers, both lead teachers and assistant teachers, are fully qualified, and have experience in their relative fields.

  • Benjamin Farrell - Administrative Principal

      Administrative Principal


      Ben is originally from the US. He graduated from Colby College with a double major in History and American Studies. He has a Graduate Certificate in Cross Cultural Conflict Transformation and Reconciliation from the School for International Training as well as a master’s degree in Higher and Postsecondary Education from Columbia University. He brings over seventeen years' experience in education from some of the top middle schools, high schools, and universities in the United States. His passion is in integrating education, multi-cultural issues, and leadership development. He is joined at MSB with his wife, Margareta Farrell. While not at MSB, Ben enjoys reading, coaching and spending quality time with his family. 

  • Karen French - Academic Principal

      Academic Principal

       

      Karen is originally from Canada. She holds a double Honors degree in English and French from the University of Western Ontario in Canada; an American Montessori Society (AMS) 6-12 years credential and a certificate in Adolescent Studies from the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI). Karen has celebrated over 27 years of Montessori teaching. She has extensive background in program and curriculum development. Karen has worked to strengthen and expand elementary programming for Montessori schools in Canada, spearheading an adolescent bilingual syllabus designed to expand students’ Montessori education into international studies. Her passion is creating optimal learning environments in which students develop a sense of ownership and responsibility through a rich curriculum and key experiences. While not at MSB, Karen enjoys traveling and exploring new places with her husband and their two sons.  

       

  • Margareta Farrell - Vice Principal of Student Affairs

      Margareta is originally from the US. She completed her masters in Biology, with a Microbiology focus, from the University of West Georgia. Margareta has over 14 years’ experience in education. She brings her expertise in teaching Grade 5 science this year. She is joined at MSB by her husband Benjamin Farrell. While not at MSB, Margareta enjoys traveling and spending quality time with her family. 

  • Alice Zhang

      Head of Elementary/MS Chinese Department


      Alice is originally from China. She is the head of our Elementary and Middle School Chinese program. In addition, she is the developer of those two programs. She completed her master’s in education degree from Monash University in Australia. She is a fully trained elementary Montessori teacher. She is a long serving member of MSB with 26 years at the school. She loves teaching and enjoys being around children. She also loves to spend time with her dog Teddy. They take walks together in the morning and in the evening.

       

  • Candy Wang

      Middle School Chinese Language Teacher

       

      Candy is originally from Beijing. She completed her PhD in Philosophy from the Beijing Normal University and certified to teach Chinese as a second language and English as an Additional Language. She has her Montessori teaching certificate from 3 to 6 and currently studying the AMS secondary course from the Houston Montessori Center in the US. She has over 15 years' experience in education. Candy is passionate about challenge and the unknown. She has been at MSB for eight years. While not at MSB, Candy enjoys reading and traveling.

  • Charles Dujat des Allimes

      Elementary/MS Music Teacher


      Charles is originally from France. He earned his certification in sports education from IREPS Bordeaux.  Charles has over 35 years’ experience. Charles teaches the Grades 3-6 music and is the head curator of the annual Winter Show extravaganza show held in December. He is a long serving member of MSB with 21 years at the school. His passion is enjoying life. While not at MSB, Charles still enjoys life.

  • Elisa Liang

      Preschool Chinese Coordinator


      Elisa is originally from China. She qualified as a Montessori 3-6 teacher and has over 20 years' experience in education. She likes to work with younger children and always believes they give her more than she can do for them. Elisa's passion is to challenge herself by learning new things and different as Montessori education teaches us that "Education is to life". She is a long serving member of MSB with 24 years at the school. While not at MSB, Elisa enjoys spending time with her grandson and reading.


  • Frances Chowles

      Infant &Toddler Coordinator


      Frances is originally from South Africa & UK. She has Montessori training for the ages 0-3 and 3-6 from Canada and the US respectively. She has over 20 years’ experience in education. Frances spearheads the implementation of our infancy program, The Little MSBees. She worked for two years in a toddler’s workshop program for two years for children aged 18-24months. Her passion is working with children of all ages. Frances is a long serving member of MSB with 24 years at the school. While not at MSB, Frances enjoys traveling, reading, playing scrabble and spending quality time with friends and family. 

  • Geraldine Solis

      Head of Learning Support Department

       

      Geraldine is originally from the Philippines. She completed her master’s degree in psychology from Walden University. Also, Geraldine posses has a postgraduate certificate in special education and graduated with honors when she received her bachelor’s degree in psychology. Geraldine has worked in the Philippines, Hong Kong, Hangzhou, and Beijing. She has been teaching children with learning differences and exceptionalities for 19 years. Her passion lies in sharing her knowledge and skills in the fields of special education and developmental psychology to other teachers and parents through workshops and conferences in China and across Asia. Geraldine has been at MSB for five years. While not at MSB, Geraldine enjoys reading books and traveling.

  • Grannie Barry

      Early Childhood 3 Coordinator

       

      Grainne  is originally from Ireland. She is a qualified Montessori teacher and gained her qualifications from Killester College, Ireland. Grainned has over 19 years' experience in education. She has taught in Switzerland and Germany. Her passion is musical theatre and further studies in the field of education. She is a long serving member of MSB with 13 years at the school. While not at MSB, Grainne enjoys traveling and going to dance classes.

  • Jaime Castro Molero

      Head of Art Department


      Jaime is originally from Spain. He got his bachelor’s degree in Art History from the University of Seville. He has over 10 years' experience in education. Jaime has taught in Spain, Morocco and Hong Kong. He is the head curator of the annual Art Show held in May that showcases individual and group projects. The group projects are auctioned to raise money for charity. Jaime is passionate about music and art, of course. Jaime has been at MSB for eight years. While not at MSB, Jaime enjoys getting lost in town just hunting for art exhibitions and other different types of events.

  • Sarah-Jane Basso

      Grade 1 & 2 Coordinator


      Sarah-Jane is originally from Canada. She graduated from the University of Western Ontario, Canada with a bachelor’s degree in Sociology, as well as a post-graduate degree in grief counselling and palliative care. Sarah-Jane posses preschool, lower and upper elementary Montessori qualifications from the Toronto Montessori Institute. She has taught from Toddler to Grade 3. She is passionate about visiting extended family in both Ireland and Canada as well as continuing to be a lifelong learner by seeking out interesting professional development . Sarah-Jane is a long serving member of MSB with 18 years at the school. While not at MSB, Sarah-Jane enjoys spending time with her family, baking, reading and exercising.

  • Shahir Shahidian

      Grade 3 & 4 English-Only Lead Teacher


      Shahir is originally from Canada. She completed her Montessori training in preschool and elementary in the UK. In addition, she has early childhood education training from Canada.  Shahir has over 23 years’ experience in education including administration and in the classroom.  She has taught in Canada, Mozambique and China. Her passion is sharing her love of Chinese culture, collecting antiques and looking for ways to enrich her students learning experience. Shahir has been at MSB for six years. While not at MSB, Shahir enjoys research, reading and traveling.
