We are excited to warmly welcome you to the International School of Beijing (MSB).  From our humble beginnings as a 10-person class located in the Norwegian Embassy, to our current tree lined campus, MSB is rooted in thirty years of educational excellence.

Teachers at MSB share a deep commitment to each child, ensuring they reach their fullest potential. The classroom is a place where curiosity and happiness go hand in hand.  Based on the time-honored traditions of Dr. Montessori’s philosophy, we understand that academic inquiry and a deep lifelong love of learning are key markers in the outcomes in life that matter.  This sense of joyful learning results in high academic achievement, happiness, resiliency, an open and curious mind, and a drive to grow.

The MSB Montessori curriculum is designed to meet the developmental stages of children’s growth. From our youngest “Little MSBees” to our Middle School students, activities, lessons and extensive research projects are realized through the use of beautiful materials. The connectedness of the Montessori continuum prepares children to move to the next level with a strong foundation for future concepts.

At MSB we are proud of our tight knit community, walking through our 19,000 square meter campus will elicit many greetings, warm smiles, and laughter from those you encounter.  This spirt of community is seen in the humble generosity and deep connections between our staff and parents.

Whether it’s on the field, on stage, or in class our students support (loudly!) their schoolmates. This strong and supportive peer culture is crucial to the success of our students.  Stepping into a classroom at MSB means that you might see a five-year-old teaching a three-year-old the best way to hold a paint brush.  The sense of empowerment, care for others, and belief that we are best when we are serving others is palpable at MSB.  Our multi-age classrooms foster a high level of engagement and connectedness, with our students developing a strong sense of independence, confidence, and ownership of their learning.

MSB’s Dual Language Program is unique in Beijing, simultaneously preparing our students for English as the language of instruction at our Middle School and allowing for our students to utilize Chinese and English fluidly, researching, writing and presenting in both languages.

In 2016, MSB begun a strategic partnership with the Niskayuna Central School District, a suburban school district located in upstate New York. This partnership’s goal is collaborate through the sharing of knowledge and resources to prepare students for a global future. Over the past two years, leadership teams from both organizations have made several visits to the partner schools to learn more about curriculum, discuss teacher and student exchanges and exchange best practices regarding the development of our Middle School.

This partnership gives our Middle School students, and our coming High School students, exposure to a rich, vibrant and unique program that’s competitively placed. Our community will benefit from exposure to international and culturally diverse programming and experiences.

As we thoughtfully expand into our College Preparatory High School program in 2021, we will keep the best of who we have been for the last 30 years, a close-knit community where our students will be seen, they will be known, and their voice will be heard.  With intentionally small class sizes, MSB will continue to be personal, academically rigorous, accessible, and deeply community orientated.

We invite you to visit our school, get to know our community, and learn more about what MSB has meant to so many for past 30 years.  We are certain that you will see that there is a place here for your child to learn, to grow, and to challenge themselves.
