MSB Grades One through Six Elementary students build on their strong preschool foundation and continue to build strong skills in reading, writing, mathematics and, through the Culture curriculum, science, history, geography and ITC. At this stage of the child’s education, the importance of establishing solid basic skills cannot be overstated as it is the key to success in all later learning. In the MSB elementary programme, the children begin to master concepts in the abstract, and use of concrete materials gradually gives way to the use of texts. Children continue to work through the curriculum in individualised/small groups to ensure that all concepts are fully internalised before moving on to new ones. Children who require more time to master certain concepts receive it, making certain that there are no gaps in the child’s learning. At the same time, fast learners move through the curriculum at their own pace, ensuring that they remain fully engaged and stimulated. In this way, all children remain confident, focused learners in the classroom.
